Apologies for the radio silence over the last week, I was on holiday in the highlands of Scotland, and had a tremendous time. For any Monarch of the Glen fans out there, this is where we were staying:
Well, almost, we were actually staying in the equally gothic gatelodge, at the other end of the 2-mile drive. This is the same gatelodge that featured in series 2 episode 1 of the programme. It was amazing to be able to stay there, we kept seeing jealous tourists stopping outside to take photos, and we felt very smug. If you fancy a wee break yourself go to the website:

They filmed pretty much all of the locations in the area and we visited the three villages that were used for Glenbogle (Laggan, Newtonmore and Kingussie). We didn't have time to see everything but we packed a lot into our week including a trip up Cairngorm mountain (in 2 feet of snow!), a tour of a whiskie distillery, a visit to Perth, and a trip round a wildlife park which included bison, wolves, elk and reindeer, and Scottish wildcats, possibly the prettiest moggies I've ever seen:
I also managed to fit in some knitting, I finished the stripey hat I'd been making for the trip:
It's adapted from the 'solar hat' pattern in the RYC accessories book (book 20). I didn't use the cables because I thought it might look a bit too much with the stripes, but other than that it's pretty much the same. I knitted it because I guessed it might be a bit cold up in Scotland, but in the end it was my sister who wore it for most of the holiday:
She's not of a knitterly persuasion, bless her, and had neglected to pack enough woollen articles for the holiday so she was ill-prepared for the four days of snow that we had. She was glad of the hat when we got to the top of Cairngorm mountain and had to push the car out of the snow drifts in the car park!
I also started a pair of 'Fetching' mitts, a commission from a friend of Kitty, who was the recipient of the last pair. These are in the same Natural Dye Studio BFL/Merino aran yarn, but in a lovely colourway of blue pruple and cream. Pictures will be on here when they're finished.
