Aeon Flux
Guess what I watched last night? This film was slated by critics and movie-goers alike when it was released early last year so I assumed it wasn't worth seeing, despite it being the type of sci-fi nonsense that I occasionally like to indulge in. However, my flatmate rented it a couple of months ago and recommended it to me, so when it arrived from Lovefilm yesterday I was quite intrigued to see what it was actually like. I have to say that it was a lot of silliness, but nevertheless I rather enjoyed it. I was feeling slightly spacey last night anyway due to an impending cold, and I was doing the ironing and then knitting in front of it so it required exactly the level of concentration I was prepared to spare it. It's all very pretty, lots of bright colours and futuristic architecture. You don't really need to know what's going on, it's the usual Utopian future that turns out to be not quite so Utopian, with an underground resistance who dress in black leather and an overbearing authority who will stop at nothing to ensure that society does things their way. It's very much like The Island, Equilibrium, maybe The Fifth Element in terms of style; that kind of stylised futuristic thriller except that it takes itself waay too seriously: there is NO humour in this film. Not even a little bit. There is some cool stuff though, like Sophie Okonedo with hands for feet, Pete Postlethwaite dressed in a chrysalis, funky clothing and deadly warrior fruit. Go rent it, it's pretty.
I have little knitting news to report as I'm still in secretive Christmas pressie mode. There will be an explosion of crafty news after Christmas when I can reveal what I've been working on. I'm also slowly making my way through the final quarter of the Alpine Shrug. I'm hoping to get it done before Christmas but I might end up taking it up to my parent's over Christmas as a holiday project. I really want to finish it soon because I bought three balls of Rowan's new 'Cocoon' yarn ages ago and I need to turn them into gloves while it's still cold enough to need them!
In cinema news August Rush and The Darjeeling Limited are both out on general release today. I'm hoping to see them both within the next couple of weeks so look out for reviews!
